A Study of Common Perception of Characterisation Highlighting with Reference to Human Body Illustration

Indian expressions with highlighting identity elements are getting updated to make it contemporary. Exaggeration has been practiced by painters, illustrators, graphic designers, sculptors, and other artists in visual designs of characters to render characteristics and identity and its appreciation perception may be investigated towards better acceptability by its intended audiences. Through direct observations and interviews with current practitioners visiting different locations in Bengal and Uttarakhand, this study sought to understand how the exaggerated body parts, i.e. identity elements form reference points for recognition of character bodies even in forms of abstract to a certain degree and render context is applied. This paper deals with issues of common perception on human body illustration and its theme expressive exaggerations and the importance of incorporating traditional hand-drawn animation, character-design methods, and stories in gaming to sustain and protect cultural diversity and provide an engaging alternative to the storytelling practices, inculcating the same ideas through a different medium.
