A computer or smartphone has become integral to personal, social, and professional survival as a way to create, express, communicate, collaborate, and access information. A constant stream of Android malware has also emerged as legitimate use of smartphones has increased. This gives motivation to malware developers to earn extra money illegally. Other minor motivations include activism, practical jokes, infiltration, cybercrime, and serious crimes including privacy breaches. In our paper, we will list the numerous Android malware detection approaches and techniques available and propose the benefits and drawbacks of the various static, dynamic, and hybrid techniques proposed by many researchers in past years.
