Occupational therapists (OTs) serve as integral members of interdisciplinary teams, providing tailored therapies to fulfil the diverse demands of those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). With expertise in child development, cognitive, sensory processing, and social communication abilities, emotional regulation, and motor development, OTs implement structured and unstructured assessments to identify areas of difficulty and design-targeted interventions. Drawing from empirical evidence, OTs employ various therapeutic approaches to support persons with ASD in extents, for instance, sensory integration, emotive regulation, and social skills advancement. Through teamwork with families, teachers, and caregivers, OTs provide a complete approach. They promote physical, sensory, communication, and social-emotional health in many different settings. This chapter looks at the important role of OTs in caring for individuals with ASD. It also shows how effective various therapy methods can be in improving their daily skills and overall life.
