The primary goal of this survey paper is to actually judge the requirement of a Satellite-Based Tolling System, technically, and then survey the various solutions and systems catering to this problem. The tolling system in India is dependent on skilled labor, and the physical infrastructure takes a huge monetary toll on the government and the inefficiency caused by human involvement costs time, fuel, and money. This survey paper refers to solutions implemented in the transport sector (Government and Private) that use similar services like Cloud Location Tracking, Trips Management, and Services like Fleetwise, and Snap-to-Road, and the cloud infrastructure being researched belongs to Amazon Web Services (AWS). Several services provided by AWS like EC2, IoT Core, etc., are used. The broad idea is to set up virtual toll booths using various frameworks like GeoHashes and to detect the trip details of the entire vehicle and charge the vehicle accordingly. The solution is judged on the parameters of cost-cutting, fuel saving, environmental impact, and efficiency achieved while traveling. It will also assess the effectiveness of the system and its viability for a successful implementation.
