For me, Future Design began on March 2, 2012. On that day, I was invited by Professor John Stranlund, one of my former students at the University of California, Santa Barbara, to present a seminar at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. The theme of the presentation was “Mechanisms for Solving Social Dilemmas.” I would like to reproduce the contents of that lecture here. Portions of this chapter are based on Saijo (2014, 2019).
