Biogas is an eco-conscious and renewable energy source that has gained global recognition as a pivotal element in the transition towards a sustainable and secure future. New Zealand, known for its steadfast commitment to environmental preservation and renewable energy, has been actively exploring the feasibility of biogas as a viable alternative. The study’s conclusions are derived from thoroughly examining 55 prevailing literature and policy records from 2019 and interviews with industry experts in the New Zealand biogas sector. This study provides a comprehensive insight into the determinants that shape the effective deployment of biogas technology in the New Zealand context. It investigates various factors and their interlinks that influence the implementation and uptake of biogas technology. The study analysis reveals that the top three factors connected to biogas are waste management, renewable energy, and suitable infrastructure, resources, and technology. By comprehending and proactively dealing with these influential factors, it becomes feasible to chart a course towards a more efficient and sustainable execution of biogas initiatives in New Zealand. This investigation offers invaluable insights for academics, policymakers, investors, and industry experts aiming to stimulate the advancement of biogas technology in New Zealand.
