Over the last decade, sustainable construction materials have been widely studied and partly adopted for construction projects. In the context of the construction industry, it is commonly acknowledged that sustainable construction materials have a positive impact on the environment. However, conventional construction materials are commonly used and preferred over sustainable materials in construction projects. Thus, the aim of this study is to establish a conceptual framework for the selection of sustainable construction materials in order to promote construction development. A comprehensive literature review was carried out to identify the main factors that impact the selection of sustainable construction materials before establishing a conceptual framework to explain the relationship among these factors. The first finding is that there were four major factors, which were social, economic, environmental, and technical factors, influencing the selection of sustainable construction materials. It was also pointed out that conceptual framework and hypotheses were established among these factors. The value of the conceptual framework lies in its ability to explain the relationships between factors and the impact of these factors on the selection of sustainable construction materials. The research is expected to contribute to the body of knowledge in sustainable construction development.

摘要
