Urban fire outbreak is a safety concern that causes tragic deaths and colossal loss of valuable properties in the communities of Lagos State, Nigeria. In 2020, the city government reported an economic loss of US$78.13 million as a result of fire disasters. Generally, occupants of residential buildings in Lagos are not well equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to manage fire risks. This study investigated the influence of disaster risk reduction (DRR) education on fire disaster preparedness in Lagos. The study was conducted quantitatively with a cross-sectional survey research design. By employing a proportionate random sampling technique, questionnaires were administered directly to participants consisting of 152 heads of households residing in 147 buildings situated across three local government areas of the state. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to test the items’ validity and reliability. A regression analysis was used to test the research hypothesis. Results from the regression analysis showed that the intervention of DRR education has a positive link to fire disaster preparedness. Findings from this study provide insights into how several stakeholders in the state could play a strategic role in facilitating DRR education geared towards improving fire disaster preparedness.
