The increasing occurrences of natural disasters triggered a situation of forced displacement of communities leading to a significant number of internally displaced people within their regions. Displacement is literally an “out of place” situation where affected groups confront to an array of physical, social, economic, and mental struggle while attempting to regain their normalcy. Initiating a sense of place through post disaster sheltering forms an important aspect in their path towards recovery. However, existing physical solutions merely solve the problems in the periphery without attempting to address the underlying issues which corresponds to disaster impacts over affected people and place. To account for recovery in the long run, disasters need to be analysed in terms of their causal factors that impact recovery. The strategies in post disaster sheltering requires more emphasis on understanding the provisions and considerations to be made in this regard. This literature study aims to improve the sheltering strategy by addressing to the root causes that can improve recovery. The methodology is based on a thematic analysis under disasters and sheltering to bring about evidence surrounding this matter through a comparison of coded contents into sheltering themes. Findings show that vulnerabilities associated with disasters and contextual factors of people affected are part of root causes which need to be addressed in sheltering considerations that shape their recovery.
