In this study, we present and investigate a novel continuous distribution for lifetime. The new lifetime distribution is obtained by combining the exponential and gamma distributions using a mixture component. The proposed distribution which can be compared to the exponential distribution and Lindley distribution possesses the advantageous characteristic of offering a more flexible distribution. A comprehensive examination of the statistical properties of the new distribution is conducted, along with the estimation of its scale parameter using maximum likelihood estimation method. Furthermore, we demonstrate its enhanced goodness of fit in comparison to several existing distributions through the analysis of two real-life data sets. Finally, our findings have been summarized and potential areas for further research in this study have been discussed.
