Suicide is an outcome of the complex interplay between multiple risk factors. Factors from personal areas like genetic loading and mental illness to wide socioeconomic domains like poverty, development indices, war, and pandemics affect suicidal behavior in the community. The risk factors vary based on the geographical location and socio-cultural structure. Available evidence revealed that wide ecological variables affect suicidality even though the association differs in strength and variations in directions. In this chapter, we highlight the role of different enduring structural factors of the society in suicide focusing on multiple components like HDI, income category of the country, and educational attainment.
