An Experimental Study on Dynamic Characteristics and of Residual Rail Corrugation in Suburban Railway

Corrugation is a common problem in railways, and it has gradually become prominent in newly opened 120 km/h speed level suburban railways. This article investigates the dynamic effects of rail corrugation on a small radius curves of urban railways through experimental methods such as in-situ dynamic testing, continuous contact measurement, vibration and noise test in vehicle et al. Results showed that, the 428 Hz and the 679 Hz are the characteristic frequencies of corrugation on suburban railway, and the impacts of the two frequencies are also different. The 428 Hz has a greater impact on the vehicle, while the 679 Hz is closer to the resonance frequency of the clip spring, which could cause the elastic bar to break. Besides, the 679 Hz is not much significant enough in the car-body vibration, but could be reflected in the noise. When conducting corrugation monitoring, it should be noticed that both acceleration and sound sensors should be installing inside the vehicle at the same time.
