In this chapter, we critically analyse the role of regulation in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) healthcare system, specifically focusing on the regulatory framework governing healthcare practices. We place particular emphasis on the role of licensing, setting standards, monitoring compliance with professional regulations, and ensuring professional accountability. We aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of how these regulatory mechanisms function within the KRI healthcare system and their impact on the quality and delivery of healthcare services. Our analysis reveals several challenges within the current regulatory system, including the ineffectiveness of regulatory bodies, inconsistencies in disciplinary proceedings, and the prevalence of clientelism.
