Smart Nanosensors: A New Approach in Crop Protection and Pest Management
摘要
The world is facing a pressing challenge of feeding a growing population with limited food resources, exacerbated by crop diseases and pests. To address this, the agricultural sector must adopt smart and innovative solutions. Nanosensors are designed to detect and analyse crop diseases and pest infestations. The signalling is in real time. This facilitates effective and timely management of pest and diseases. In the face of high variability in climate, crops are confronted with great risk of infection and infestation, nanosensors are promising methods to minimise losses and reduce impact of diseases. These innovative tools offer a beacon of hope in minimizing losses and mitigating diseases' impact, showcasing nanotechnology's vast potential in ensuring global food security. This chapter explores the transformative potential of nanotechnology in enhancing crop protection and pest management. Also, the chapter raises awareness of the economic and environmental impacts of implementing nanosensor technology in sustainable farming as a substitute for synthetic pesticides, which threatens human health and environment.
