Co-reference Resolution in the Assamese Language: A Comprehensive Study
摘要
The co-references are all the terms that define the same thing in a text. For example, consider the sentence “The James Webb Space Telescope is a space telescope and it is situated at the L2 point”. In this example, “James Webb Space Telescope”, “space telescope” and “it” are the co-references. To find out these co-references is known as co-reference resolution. Co-reference resolution is an important task for linguistic as well as computational aspects. It is used in various applications of Natural Language Processing (NLP) tasks like Information Retrieval (IR), Machine translation (MT), Text summarization, Question answering systems, etc. No significant work has been made in co-reference resolution in the Assamese language. This paper attempted to investigate all major existing approaches to co-reference resolution and identify the issues and challenges specific to the Assamese language.
