Prediction of Drop Diameters in an Immiscible Molten Salt and Liquid Metal System
摘要
The aim of this study is to investigate drop formation of molten salt (LiCl–KCl eutectic) in a single submerged orifice in a quiescent liquid Cadmium metal and to gain an understanding of the mechanism of drop formation. The phenomenon of drop formation is studied by means of a computational approach. The evolution of interface between the dispersed drop and continuous phase is tracked by using phase field method. Utilizing the reported data for aqueous-organic systems in literature, the results obtained using the numerical simulations are validated. This model is extended to a liquid metal and molten salt system. Under different operating conditions, the formation behavior of molten salt drops in liquid metals is investigated numerically. Analytical expressions to estimate the drop diameter are referred from known literature, and the unknown parameters are fit by using results derived from the computational model.
