Geoheritage and cultural heritage are correlated with one another and both have relevance in urban areas. Smart cities are engines of growth, connecting digital resources for sustainable development of the cities. They play a dominant role in conserving the geoheritage comprising of forests, parks, open spaces and urban centres. Smart cities should ensure to capitalize on local development, and importance should be given on strengthening local culture and local heritage by providing solutions. The present study aims at analysing the land use and land cover changes in terms of area using Google earth images and studying the smart solutions by finding the clustering of smart facilities using hotspot analysis technique in Shimla smart city. The data pertaining to smart facilities has been collected through GPS survey. It was concluded from the study that Shimla has witnessed an increase in the built-up area and decline in forest area within a decade from 2012 to 2022 before and after its designation as smart city. The hotspot analysis (Getis-Ord statistics) shows that the northern and eastern and south-eastern wards are the development growth centres in the city comprising of the Annadale ward witnessing more smart works. While the western, some parts of central, eastern and southern wards are located in cold hotspot region as they lack advanced smart public infrastructure comprising of Panthaghati, Lower bazaar, Ram Bazar and Krishnagar wards mainly due to congestion and no space is left for further development in these wards. It shows that though smart city is considered as a smart solution for conservation of geoheritage and cultural heritage of the city but it is adding further burden on it and giving a call to the disasters by neglecting the geography and geology of the city.
