Design of an Early Flood Detection System for Communities in Flood-Prone Areas

A tool for early flood detection, successfully designed and known as Early Flood Detection (EFDe), is a system that utilizes the Internet of Things and can be accessed by users through a browser or an Android smartphone. In general, this tool demonstrates accurate sensor responses to water level readings. The time required for the sensor to transmit data to the server is 10–15 s. The speed of this data transmission is influenced by several factors, including sensor response, server response, and the cellular network used. The EFDe system is equipped with alarms around the location and has a 10–15 s response time when the indicator shows FLOOD POTENTIAL, persisting until the signal changes to SAFE. The EFDe system is also equipped with a solar panel and a controlled solar charger, featuring an independent energy source derived from the sun and stored in batteries. This is why the EFDe system can provide real-time information. The EFDe functions as a warning system for residents in flood-prone areas.
