Selection technique is the most complex among the various forms of numerology that were prevalent in ancient Chinese society. Led by various dynasties, it influenced the daily lives of billions of Chinese people throughout history through the publication of millions of folk calendars (also known as the calendar of daily activities, annotated calendar, imperial calendar, or yellow calendar, now referred to as the lunar calendar) by official astronomical institutions each year.
