The ± 1100 kV UHV direct current (UHV DC) transmission project is a brand new topic with no existing experience for reference. In the preliminary research of the CG project, China has summarized experience from the construction and operation of several ± 800 kV UHVDC transmission projects. Based on the current level of DC equipment manufacture, a ± 1100 kV UHVDC transmission system with a rated transmission capacity of 12 GW, the highest voltage level and the largest transmission power in the world, has been planned. The research and development of ±1100kV, 12GW equipment are crucial for the CG project. This chapter provides a detailed introduction to the main apparatus in the converter station.
