Reflections on the Bronze Trend
摘要
The Bronze Age is defined as “the stage of human material cultural development in which bronze becomes the primary material for manufacturing tools, utensils, and weapons” (Shi Xingbang 石兴邦.“tong shidai tiao” 铜时代条 [“Bronze Age” Entry]. In Zhongguo Dabaike Quanshu: Kaoguxue 中国大百科全书·考古学 [Chinese Encyclopaedia: Archaeology], Encyclopedia of China Publishing House 中国大百科全书出版社, 1986). Generally, there is a consensus in the academic community regarding this definition: “The Bronze Age refers to the period when bronze artefacts hold notable importance in the archaeological record. The basis for recognising that ‘notable importance’ lies in the types and quantities of discovered items” (Zhang Guangzhi 张光直. Zhongguo qingtong shidai 中国青铜时代 [The Chinese Bronze Age], SDX Joint Publishing Company 生活·读书·新知三联书店, 2013).
