Using Radio Wave Sensor for Assessment of Sustainable Road Pavement Incorporated Olive Waste Ash

In this paper, a novel radio-wave sensor for evaluating the materials of asphalt pavement is presented. The suggested tool is a great fit for field research because it is portable, quick, easy to use and affordable. Experiments conducted on a range of asphalt pavement materials show how well the sensor performs when assessing critical factors that are crucial to preserving the quality of the pavement, such as moisture content, the effect of filler additives, pavement thickness and crack detection. Additionally, to lower health risks and recycle toxic ash waste to create environmentally friendly asphalt, sustainable asphalt materials were prepared using olive oil waste ash, a by-product of olive mills in the northern region of Jordan. Under various moisture conditions, the sensor measured the electromagnetic properties of asphalt in the frequency range of 100 kHz to 1000 kHz. In the field, it was also used to measure the dielectric characteristics of cracked and intact pavement. The findings validate the sensor’s ability to measure asphalt thickness and identify moisture, waste content, cracks and crack orientation. Before the sensor is widely used in the field, more testing is required to take into account other factors, such as various types of asphalt and temperature variations.
