CRISPR/Cas System-Based Genome Editing of Crops and Microbiome to Achieve Food and Nutrition Security
摘要
Genome editing has been transformed by the CRISPR/Cas system, which provides unmatched accuracy and adaptability for tackling issues with global food and nutrition security. In order to fulfil the demands of a growing population under the challenges of climate change, this cutting-edge technology allows targeted genetic alterations in crops to improve yield, nutritional content, and tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses. Beyond crop development, CRISPR plays a key role in improving soil health, boosting nutrient availability, creating plant-associated microbiomes, and building resilience to environmental stressors. By combining CRISPR/Cas with systems biology and sophisticated breeding methods, sustainable agricultural systems can be developed more quickly, lowering dependency on chemical inputs while boosting output. By improving their metabolic pathways for greater nutritional value and biofortifying crops with vital nutrients, CRISPR/Cas-based therapies also hold promise for reducing malnutrition. To ensure safe, egalitarian, and sustainable deployment, however, ethical, legal, and societal issues must be addressed before this technology may be widely adopted. CRISPR/Cas is a revolutionary technique with great potential for developing robust food systems that support international sustainability objectives. By utilizing its potential, we can create a future in which everyone can achieve food and nutrition security, guaranteeing fair access to wholesome and sustainable food supplies.
