This chapter introduces and describes the concepts, relationships, and distinctions between surrounding rock pressure and secondary stress within the rock. It provides comprehensive insights into the analytical solutions and the stress distribution governing elastic and elastic–plastic secondary stresses, particularly in the context of deep-buried circular tunnels.
