The effect of octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) coating parameters on surface wetting properties has been explored to achieve controlled surface wettability on a glass substrate. A hydrophobic surface with water contact angle (WCA) of 91.18° to a superhydrophobic surface with WCA of 166.05° has been obtained. The surface wettability is tuned by varying the concentration of the OTS solution and the substrate immersion duration. The positioning of the substrate during coating also affects the WCA of the surface. During OTS coating, positioning the sample at an incline produces approximately the same WCA on both sides of the substrate, suggesting uniform coating on both sides while positioning the sample horizontally produces unequal WCAs. The wetting property of a substrate is an important facet for the uniformity of thin films grown/ coated over it. We have demonstrated tuning of surface wettability using OTS for uniform coating of a novel organic molecule, diazarubicene on glass substrate.

摘要
