The climate is undergoing a profound and unprecedented transformation due to human activities over the past century. Evidence suggests that humans are primarily responsible for the climate change crisis. The increasing burning of fossil fuels, the release of greenhouse gases (GHGs), and other industrial and agricultural practices have disrupted the delicate balance of the world’s ecosystems. If current environmental practices continue, climate impacts are expected to worsen in the coming decades. Global temperatures are projected to rise several degrees Celsius by the end of this century, resulting in more frequent and intense heat waves, droughts, wildfires, and floods. High temperatures, ocean acidification, and changing rainfall patterns are also putting immense pressure on vulnerable habitats like coral reefs, rainforests, and the Arctic tundra, leading to their extinction. The loss of biodiversity and the degradation of natural systems will have dire consequences for human well-being and the future of life on Earth. Addressing these environmental challenges requires a comprehensive global effort to shift away from fossil fuels, protect and restore natural ecosystems, and reduce pollutant emissions.
