The disregard for disability rights in Kurdistan-Iraq is apparent in all sectors, including education. Life story interviews of Kurdish people with disabilities reveal pervasive institutionalized academic ableism. The meanings of disability vary from one culture to the next, and global North frameworks are not always a good fit with global South communities. While accessible education is lacking at present, there are effective organizations of Kurdish people with disabilities who are working on implementing it.
