An investigation into the domain of deepfake incidents in India was conducted, focusing on cases where political figures, celebrities, and ordinary individuals became victims of deepfake. This research was motivated by the increasing number of cases related to deepfake technology and its potential impact on Indian society. Technologies used by perpetrators, their underlying motivations and the distribution of such incidents across different sectors were explored through the analysis of ten recent popular case studies. By examining documented instances of deepfake usage and their implications, which serve not only as cautionary tales but also as deepuseful resources, the research aims to help in understanding the capabilities and constraints of deepfake technology and explore the various challenges it presents to society, politics, and media. Additionally, the research aims to anticipate future challenges presented by deepfake technology and contribute to ongoing research on effective detection and mitigation strategies.
