Determination Method of Reserve Parameters Using Volumetric Method Based on MATLAB: A Case Study on the Tight Sandstone Gas Reservoirs of the 2nd Member, Permian Shanxi Formation, Northern Yan’an Gas Field of Ordos Basin

For solving problems such as heavy workload, multiple links, hard to verify, in determining reserve parameters using traditional volumetric method, which depends mainly on human-reading for attributes weighted, an efficient solution based on MATLAB is given in this paper. With the support of software and hardware of computer, according to the principle of computational geometry based on MATLAB platform, this paper disintegrated systematically working links in determining reserve parameters using traditional volumetric method, carrying out the modularization programming for every single work link. This paper presented an efficient algorithm for processing contours of geological attribute. Reserve parameters results of arithmetic statistic method, area weighted average method, volume weighted average method in gas-bearing units can be computed simultaneously. Data tables and processing maps can be exported too. Using this method, which accuracy is higher, speed is faster, reliability is stronger, heavy artificial computation be avoided. The practicability, effectiveness and reliability of this method have been confirmed in the reserve calculation of the tight sandstone gas reservoirs of the 2nd Member, Permian Shanxi Formation, Northern Yan’an Gas Field of Ordos Basin. This method is worth further application as it can provide a possible solution to improve the standardization of determining reserve parameters using traditional volumetric method for tight sandstone gas reservoirs.
