This introductory chapter summarizes the book’s contents. Starting with a brief history of engineering, there follow descriptions of the engineering courses in each of the Asia-Pacific countries which are signatories to the Washington Accord which resulted from a meeting of national professional engineering accreditation bodies. The history and development of the Bachelor of Engineering degree at the University of Tasmania is presented as a case study. Included are personal histories and undergraduate experiences of the engineering students at the University of Tasmania in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. Their successful careers as engineers and managers are a testament to the quality of their engineering education. The following chapters record the contribution to engineering education from the collaboration of this author and Dr. Seeta Jaikaran-Doe. The book concludes with the author’s vision for the future of engineering education.
