The present study has investigated the radiological impact of radioactive 222Rn exposure from waterbodies on the health of the dwellers of Durgapur City, India. Mean ingestion and inhalation dose, total effective dose [TED] per annum due to natural 222Rn exposure from both surface water and groundwater has been estimated. The measured 222Rn concentration in the water samples varies from 0.580 BqL−1 to 8.24 BqL−1. The ingestion dose rates vary from 1.48 µSvy−1 to 21.09 µSvy−1 and the inhalation dose varies from 1.46 µSvy−1 to 20.76 µSvy−1, respectively due to water dissolve 222Rn. The mean TED is found as 11.81 µSvy−1. The measured values are well below the respective permissible limit of 100 µSvy−1 recommended by World Health Organization (WHO).
