Urbanisation is closely associated with improved income levels and living standards of people across the world including India. Urbanisation is, thus, expected to improve quality of life in terms of housing conditions and access to basic amenities like electricity, clean fuel such as LPG/PNG, clean drinking water, improved sanitation, etc. This chapter focuses on the above-mentioned basic amenities and tries to examine the variations at the state level and by size class of urban centres and administrative status.
