The twentieth century was not only a century traditionally centered on the West, especially the United States, but also a century of national independence and cultural self-awareness for non-Western societies, such as those in Asia, Africa and Latin America, as they struggled to emerge from colonization. With the end of the Cold War, the global system has become increasingly multipolar in the face of globalization. Regional issues, geopolitics and development are constantly transcending the traditional boundaries of the nation-state. The conventional ideal model of global cultural homogeneity and integration, which globalization was thought to bring, is being challenged from local and regional perspectives. Therefore, exploring global issues and phenomena from a regional perspective is the starting point for understanding a global society that is “harmonious but different”.
