The novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) that originated in Wuhan, China, in December 2019 caused a worldwide pandemic. By December 2022, the cumulative number of infected people globally reached approximately 650 million, of which over 6.64 million lost their lives. With the unprecedented global spread of the disease, treatment initially focused on symptomatic treatment to save lives as effective drugs or vaccines had not yet been developed. To prevent infection during epidemics, countries enforced lockdowns and restricted individuals from leaving their homes in an attempt to reduce contact between people. These measures contributed to the isolation of individuals and caused economic stagnation, which, in turn, led to unemployment and reduced income, thus resulting in hardship and mental health problems. Since the beginning of the pandemic, various authorities, including the World health Organization (WHO), have been alerting the public of the need for mental health care (WHO 2020).
