Greening the Guest Experience: The Impact of Eco-initiatives on Satisfaction in Peer-to-Peer Accommodations
摘要
Environmental concerns have gained increasing attention in the hospitality and tourism (H&T) industry. More consumers are demanding environmentally friendly facilities and services in accommodation units, and managers’ green strategies have rapidly become a strategic tool to improve accommodation units’ competitive advantage. Peer-to-peer (P2P) accommodation units are becoming an essential and emerging business sector. They are implementing green practices, considering the rising awareness of sustainable consumption and environmental restrictions in the H&T industry. Considering the importance of green practices and the rise of P2P accommodation, this research aims to assess eco-initiatives impact on guest satisfaction within P2P accommodations. The methodology is supported by data collected using Big Data techniques and employing the data scraping method carried out on OTAs (Booking and TripAdvisor). All available information about accommodation units in the Praia da Barra, Costa Nova, Ílhavo, and Aveiro regions was extracted. These data were analyzed using the Business Intelligence tool Power BI. There is a growing interest in “green initiatives” in the accommodation sector, but their application is inconsistent. This research identifies that the most common “green initiatives” are waste management and initiatives related to destination, community, and nature.
