User-Centered Mobility Development for Higher Education Students

Urban mobility is critical for Higher Education students, who contend with challenges such as congested traffic, access restrictions, limited parking availability, and high transportation costs. Through the 4 stages of Design Thinking (Target Audience Needs, Conversion of Needs into Solutions, Development of Prototypes and Target audience testing), this study explores alternative mobility options tailored to all stakeholders’ needs, aiming to optimize commuting, promote sustainability, and improve quality of life. From traditional modes like buses and subways to modern solutions such as bicycles, scooters, electric vehicles, ridesharing services, and carpooling, various alternatives were considered. Key findings underscore the significant impact of enhanced transportation on academic performance, mental health, social connectivity, and student well-being. The study concludes with the development of a ridesharing app based on user feedback, enhancing mobility and fostering an inclusive, environmentally conscious campus environment. This initiative reflects a commitment to addressing the mobility challenges faced by students, offering practical solutions that align with contemporary urban sustainability goals. By integrating these alternatives, it aims to create a more efficient, student-friendly, and sustainable campus mobility system that supports a vibrant academic community and reduces carbon emissions.
