Initially, the spotlight on tRNAs diminished as their basic role in protein synthesis was established, prompting researchers to explore other aspects of RNA biology. Recently, there has been a revival in tRNA research, demonstrating their involvement in various biological pathways beyond simple translation. This renewed interest underscores the adaptability of tRNAs to modify protein synthesis in accordance with environmental shifts. The emerging roles of tRNAs are closely connected to the existence of various tRNA forms, including isoacceptors and isodecoders, as well as numerous base modifications, a wide range of protein interactions, and tRNA fragmentation. These factors introduce a remarkable complexity to the tRNA milieu, providing cells with an elaborate selection of tRNA species. These species are crucial in preserving cellular equilibrium and modulating cellular activities in response to environmental variability, thereby ensuring the health and stability of the overall ecosystem.
