Study on the Effect of Pre-deformation on the Exfoliation Corrosion Resistance of Al-Cu-Li Alloy

The effect of pre-deformation treatment on exfoliation corrosion behavior of Al-Cu-Li alloy was studied. The results showed that the pre-deformation before aging altered the exfoliation corrosion behavior of the experimental alloy. Under-aged alloy has the best exfoliation corrosion performance, while 2% pre-deformed alloy has the best performance in over-aged state. When the pre-deformation amount is 4%, the peak aging and under-aged alloy are the best, and when the pre-deformation amount is increased to 6%, the peak aging state is the best. At the peak-aging state, as the pre-deformation increased, the dislocation density increased, promoting the precipitation of the T1 in the grains and reduces the number of precipitates on the grain boundary. The alloy mainly exhibited pitting corrosion, which to some extent inhibited the occurrence of exfoliation corrosion and improved the exfoliation corrosion resistance.
