Effects of Homogenizing Treatment on Microstructures and Mechanical Property of Mg-4Y-2.4Sm-0.2Zn-0.4Zr Alloy

Effects of homogenizing treatment on microstructures and mechanical property of Mg-4Y-2.4Sm-0.2Zn-0.4Zr alloy was researched by the optical microscopy(OM), X-ray diffractometry(XRD) and mechanical properties test. The results show that the cast alloy is composed mainly of α-Mg phase, Mg24Y5 phase, Mg41Sm5 phase. 505℃ × 10 h is the best homogenization process for the alloy. After homogenization, Mg24Y5 phase and Mg41Sm5 phase dissolve into the matrix, the mechanical properties of Mg-4Y-2.4Sm-0.2Zn-0.4Zr alloy are significantly improved, especially the elongation of alloy increases from 8.7% in the as-cast state to 13.6% in the homogenized state.
