With the shift to remote employment due to COVID complications, individuals in management positions must determine how to supervise employees and programs virtually. Although managing a remote team may bring discomfort for many, there is an effective way to bridge the logistical divide from the traditional supervision in a physical workspace to the virtual world. It begins with embracing emotional intelligence abilities and applying them to set expectations, hire the right people, and truly know your people to provide the right motivation. Through a gardening analogy, this chapter addresses how to hire the right people and set the tone for a positive virtual working environment where employees thrive and generate high-quality results.
