A Critical Review of Sustainability and Design Methods for Prefabrication of Hempcrete Wall Panels
摘要
The promotion of hempcrete, being a low embodied carbon and thermally insulating material, can act as a decarbonisation technique and create healthy indoor environments. Sustainable Product Design methods are focused on environmental performance, and if applied alone, may affect the impact of other sustainability aspects in the design having undesired effects on the production process. Design for Manufacturing and Assembly is the most prominent design method used for prefabricated products and applied to reduce the time and costs of products. These limitations raise the need to implement design models for holistically sustainable prefabricated products in the built environment and assist practitioners to apply design thinking for sustainable solutions in practice. The integration of sustainability factors can be illustrated in a method when designing innovative products for the built environment to signify the importance of implementing the desired requirements early in the design phase. This study aims to provide a holistic understanding of the various factors influencing the contemporary built environment, with an emphasis on sustainability and relevant design methods.
