The hot shale with stable development, rich organic matter and high maturity- at the bottom of Silurian Sahmah Formation in Oman in the slope belt of the eastern margin of Rub al Khali Basin provides most important Paleozoic source rock. There is rare systematic study on quantitative calculation of Three Quality Evaluation of oil shale (source rock, reservoir and engineering qualities) and comprehensive evaluation of shale hydrocarbon potential in Sahmah Fm. Here, based on the geological setting and logging identification of hot shale and core geochemical data, the logging calculation methods of three quality evaluation parameter including TOC, S1 and S2, RO and brittleness index were established, and the grading evaluation criteria and “sweet degree” index of hot shale were constructed to evaluate the potential of Sahmah Fm. shale oil. The results show that TOC and other parameters of Sahmah Fm. hot shale in the study area have high value, the maturity reaches the oil generation threshold, and the source rock has the medium quality. The porosity and oil saturation indicates the medium reservoir quality. The natural fracture is not developed, and the low brittleness index indicates the poor engineering quality. The graded comprehensive evaluation shows that the study area is dominated by Type III wells. Although the small thickness and poor engineering quality of Sahmah Fm. hot shale in the study area, it is believed that hot shale can provide good source rocks for underlying Hasirah Sandstone. From the study area to the southwest and central direction of the basin, the hot shale thickness increases, and the formation shows greater shale hydrocarbon potential. In this paper, TOC is calculated with U content method, Δ Log R method, improved Δ Log R method and multiple regression method, which can be selected according to difference of logging items and show good practicability and application value. The study provides reference for shale oil potential evaluation in late exploration and development of Sahmah Fm. in the Middle East.

摘要
