The Feasibility Study of Sustainable Waste Management Framework for Solar Photovoltaic in Malaysia

This study presents a framework for Sustainable Waste Management of Solar PV Modules in Malaysia, identifying best practices for end-of-life PV waste management with government and stakeholder support. Objectives include defining sustainable elements, developing a conceptual model, and establishing a Waste Management Framework using PLS-SEM. The study used quantitative methods, including data analysis and questionnaire surveys, with SPSS Statistics and SmartPLS for validation. The framework includes four energy parameters of sustainable elements—Economic, Environmental, Social, and Technical as independent variables, and 3 PV waste management methods—Reuse, Recycle, and Disposal as dependent variables. The technical factors were most significant (β = 0.353), while the social factors were least significant (β = 0.056). The conceptual model and framework are moderately relevant and acceptable. As a result, the factors that influence the independent variables are the technical factors of sustainable elements, which show the highest values from the framework derived from PLS-SEM using SMARTPLS related to the dependent variables, which are the impacts of Reuse, Recycle, and Disposal on the Sustainable Waste Management Framework for Solar PV Modules in Malaysia.
