Effect of Annealing Process on the Structural Properties of Perlis Dolomite Powder
摘要
Dolomite, CaMg(CO3)2 is a carbonate mineral that found naturally in the sedimentary rocks which have high potential as raw material for bioceramic production. However, raw dolomite has a certain composition of organic compounds, carbonates and moisture. Thus, annealing process was required for dolomite in order to decarbonise the carbon, remove impurities and improve its purity. Since not many scientific findings on the heat treatment were obtained from previous researchers specifically for Perlis dolomite, this study aims to investigate the effect of annealing process on the structural properties of Perlis dolomite powder through XRF, XRD and FTIR analysis and determine its suitability for bioceramic production. From the results, it was found that the annealing process on the Perlis dolomite has transformed the carbonate compounds into CaO and MgO compounds and promoted the heat-treated dolomite as the promising precursors in the bioceramic production.
