This paper reported the preparation of MgAl2O4 spinel using one step sintering of MgO-Al2O3 composite powder in ambient air at 1450 ℃, 1500 ℃ and 1600 ℃. Rietveld refinement of XRD data showed the excellent agreement between experimental and calculated patterns. The Halder-Wagner-Langford's equation was employed to derive crystal size and micro strain of the prepared samples from XRD data. In addition, the transparent MgAl2O4 spinel pellet was successfully fabricated using spark plasma sintering.
