This preliminary work present the synthesis and successful ulilization of benzoxazine from natural resourse as reinforcing resins in Ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber compounds. Benzoxazine resin were obtained from the use of cost-effective and renewable starting material such as cardanol (agricultural by-product of cashew nut processing), hexamethylene tetramine, and formalin. The benzoxazine resin were incorporated in EPDM/silica mixture to investigate its effect on the physical and mechanical of the rubber compounds. The results show that the addition of benzoxazine significantly improve the tensile properties and thermal properties to some extent. This study provides good perspective in the utilization of benzoxazine as reinforcing agent as well as processing aids to replace traditional phenolic resins for rubber applications.

摘要
