A Study on Development of Wellness Tourism Market in Asia
摘要
Tourism has made a significant contribution to the global economy. There are numerous types of tourism, with wellness tourism being one of the most well-known. A number of studies have been carried out in order to identify problems and recommend ways to improve existing wellness tourism services. This research looked at wellness tourism studies that have been done, with an emphasis on Asian examples. This study outlines the development of the wellness tourism market in major countries of Asia, namely, India and Thailand. These developing countries are the major player in the trending tourism market. The paper presents two case studies that illustrate the development strategies adopted by these countries at their major tourist destinations in sustaining their wellness tourism market. The current study uses qualitative analysis to thoroughly examine the theme, segments, and development of wellness tourism research through scholarly articles by the researchers and two different case studies. This analysis provides valuable inputs for the growth of the tourism industry and suggests corrective actions whenever the development exceeds its cultural, social, and environmental bounds. For the scholarly consideration of the researchers and practitioners who may find some of the concepts valuable to advance, major aspects of the tourism and hospitality business have been included. According to the findings, health tourism research in Asia may be categorized into three segments—wellness tourism, health, and medical tourism. Findings also show that, with the aid of current policies, the direction of health tourism development tends to be industrialized, varied, and systematic. The present study theoretically contributes to the development of wellness tourism in the context of Asian countries.
