Wellness tourism has gained further traction in academia over the recent decades. Of course, this niche is not new. History witnessed how ancient travellers moved to enjoy their days in a spa or thermals. Pleasure maximisation is culturally enrooted in the core of the tourism industry. In this respect, wellness tourism has ignited a hot debate concerning its nature. For some voices there is some parallelism between wellness and well-being tourism; other studies focus strictly on the spiritual factors of the activity. Another point of discussion is associated with the understanding of the real motivations behind wellness tourism or the discrepancies scholars deal with. Some voices have alerted not only on the negative effects of wellness tourism as well as the limitations of applied research. The present book chapter explores the potentialities and risks of wellness tourism in Asian destinations. Joy in general and pleasure, in particular, have much potential for stimulating experiences which open the students to enhance new skills and abilities whilst learning. This point very well leads them towards a state of wellness which deserves to be investigated.
