People living with disabilities may be particularly prone to incurring dental trauma as is the case in those with issues surrounding neuromuscular coordination. Dental trauma may affect both primary and permanent dentition across age groups. This is of significance since the management of such presentations changes depending upon the type of dentition affected and its stage of development, amongst other factors. Patients and care-givers in particular should be aware of any emergency measures they can undertake along with information regarding what should not be done in case a tooth is knocked out. Practitioners should be aware of strategies they can employ to effectively deal with such cases without compromising on the standard of care.
