This paper presents a printed dipole antenna designed for handheld radio frequency identification (RFID) readers. The structure is made up of two dipole elements with unequal arms. The length of the arms is chosen to excite two adjacent frequencies in order to obtain a broad ultra-high frequency (UHF) band. The presented configuration exhibits a reflection coefficient bandwidth of 257 MHz (823–1080 MHz) in the UHF band. The configuration exhibits a peak gain of 2.6 dB. The structure has a compact footprint of 100 mm × 70 mm × 1.6 mm. Hence, a wide UHF band coverage, small form factor, simple design and lightweight makes the antenna a suitable candidate for RFID handheld readers.

摘要
